Basic Cultivation - a Beginners Guide to cubensis (short guide)

If you’ve never grown mushrooms before, you might be tempted to start with a mushroom grow kit. These ready-to-use packs contain a living mycelium substrate (the material underlying mushroom growth) that, in theory, you just need to keep humid.

In reality, you’re better off starting from scratch. Making your own substrate is not only more consistent but, if you do it right, it should be less prone to contamination as well.

Yip! That's how fast they really grow...But let's start small and then think big. The information below will outline the ideal growing conditions for psilocybe cubensis.

The mushroom grow cycle can be divided into three phases. Briefly described are the ideal grow conditions for psilocybe cubensis. These conditions may vary for different species.

Incubation: In this period it is assumed your jars are inoculated with spores and placed in a warm and dark place so that germination can kick-off and produce healthy mycelium.

Temperature: 24 - 28°c Lighting: Total Darkness Humidity: 97 - 100% Fresh Air Exchange: None Period: 2 - 4 weeks

12 - 15 Days after inoculation

Pinhead Formation: To kick-off, after the 2 - 4 week incubation period; place the fully colonised jars in an area where there is indirect sunlight and a lower temperature. The mycelium will now start forming little pinheads that will later grow into full sized mushrooms provided the conditions remain conducive.

Temperature: 22 - 24°c Lighting: Indirect Sunlight Humidity: 97 - 100% Fresh Air Exchange: None Period: 5 - 10 Days

Fruiting: When the first pinheads have show up, remove the cakes from the jars and place them in the fruiting chamber (FC) where conditions match those outlined below.

So... the pinheads have now fully formed and continue to show growth in length and width over a period (3 - 7 days); this is when the pinhead has reached adulthood.

These are the signs of success, we now have mushrooms.

Temperature: 22 - 24°c Lighting: Indirect Sunlight Humidity: 90 - 95% Fresh Air Exchange: 3 - 5 times p/day Period: 3 - 7 Days

It may seem like a stretch - collecting the equipment may be tedious and a dreary task. But all of this is quite simple.

It's easy to grow psilocybe cubensis as it tolerates a lot when it comes to ideal growing conditions and circumstances.
